Former sex shop employee: “Customers talk to you like you’re a therapist”

Pat Rogevski, who has worked in various sex shops up and down the country, says that he has seen an increase in the amount of people walking into sex shops.

“The industry was slowly dying, and there were lots of sex shops closing down but there has been a resurgence.”

Since the release of 50 Shades of Grey in 2015, there’s been a rise in sex toys being sold in sex shops and online.

In 2016, sex toy retailer Lovehoney reported a £5.1 million rise in profits due to the film release.

With the film 50 Shades of darker being released in 2017, sex shops are only going to get busier.

So what is it like to work in a sex shop?

The 48 year-old grew up wanting to be a councillor and never thought that he’d end up working in sex shops.

“Working in a sex shop has taught me a lot about people”

“Sex shops have come a long way in recent years, they’re not as dodgy as what they used to be.”

He added: “We used to con customers by selling them poor quality videos from anything from £100 all the way up to £1000.”

“Whether they’re wearing a suit or look like a scruffy f****r, we all have the same passions and desires”  

“It’s not just lonely old men that you get in sex shops, you get lawyers, doctors, students and even pensioners.”
